A quirky desert disco portrait session in St. Croix
I often fall into the trap of thinking that I won’t be able to create work that I adore without a full team, hair and make-up, stylists, props, the perfect location. But I also often find that some of my favorite work comes from the most spur of the moment, what do I have in my closet right now, stop on the side of the road experiences. This is the experience Kerissa and I had for her dessert disco diva themed shoot. We had no expectations going into the photoshoot, these are all props she had lying around her apartment, and we drove along the highway in St. Croix until we could pull over at a nice spot.
All this to say, if you’re thinking you need everything to be perfect to have the photos of your dreams, you don’t. You can show up in your underwear, we can grab a random prop from the trunk of my car, and we can create art wherever we are.
This photoshoot is also a prime example of the kind of work that lights me up. The juxtaposed. The random. The editorial. These are all elements that I strive to bring into my work and this shoot is the perfect example of how seamlessly they can all work together.
St. Croix is a beautiful place, for more photos from here check out this blog.
