Guide to a Dreamy Bali Elopement

December 26, 2022

Welcome to this dreamy December sunrise Bali Elopement.

Is there anything more magical that a destination wedding in Bali? Maybe a destination wedding in Bali with the dreamiest dresses, a one-of-a-kind vintage car, stunning florals, and sunrise on the beach. But lets rewind for a second. There’s a lot that goes into planning a destination wedding in a foreign country, and we’re going to break that down a little.

Choosing Your Wedding Location in Bali

First things first, location location location. Now, I’m a firm believer in the idea that if you have the right people around you, the location is never going to make or break your big day. At the same time, however, if you have the option for a killer location, then 100% we need to take advantage of that.

Now, most people don’t have the opportunity to travel to their dream destination before the elopement to scout locations, so my number one tip is to have an open mind. If you have a kickass photographer (*ahem* me), and your most loved people around you, then we’re going to make whatever we have work. In the meantime, start to think about how you want to spend your day. Are you imagining sunrise on the beach? In the mountains? Waterfall wedding? In a lush gorgeous villa? All of the above? Perfect, I can send you locations for all three and we can plan your day accordingly. Bali in particular is far from short on stunning locations.

Bali Marriage Laws

It’s also important to note that international laws around marriage differ from country to country. To get legally married in Bali, for example, you must have a religious ceremony. This means both you and your partner need to be of the same religion, or you need to fill out some paperwork to allow you to choose one of your religions. While that part might be easy enough, the requirements might be a challenge for the religious ceremony. My personal recommendation is for couples to do the marriage paperwork in their home country and then to have a symbolic ceremony. This allows you total freedom and flexibility and the ability to enjoy your day and stay in the moment without worrying about the legal side of things.

Bali Elopement + Wedding Vendors

Up next is vendors. I’ve found the best luck through instagram and word of mouth (Facebook travel groups are great for that). It’s also not a bad idea to hire a local wedding planner who will have tons of recommendations for vendors with the added benefit of being able to speak the language and be available to scope things out on site for you.
